Announcing The EDGE Program for Canadians with Disabilities

On Friday, we were excited to announce our groundbreaking new employment program for persons with disabilities: The EDGE Program.

BRANDS FOR CANADA, WITH SUPPORT FROM THE ONTARIO TRILLIUM FOUNDATION, LAUNCHES GROUND-BREAKING EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM FOR CANADIANS WITH DISABILITIES

Local MPP Peter Milczyn and Mario Gravelle (Ontario Trillium Foundation) were on site to officially present the Grow grant received from the Foundation.

The program will provide participants with the opportunity to develop sustainable interpersonal skills, which will support them in achieving their personal and professional goals

“Interpersonal conflict in the workplace is one of the main reasons for losing a job,” says Helen Harakas, Brands for Canada’s Executive Director. “Traditional employment programs teach people to count to ten before they blurt out something in anger to their boss or co-workers. Our program goes deeper. We help people to identify why the anger is there, and help them to overcome it. For our clients, this is even more important because employers have a tendency to discriminate against people with disabilities, particularly in the area of social skills.”

The EDGE Program is one of the most comprehensive research-based job-training initiatives in Canada, providing individuals with disabilities a competitive advantage when looking for sustainable employment. Participants build professional and life skills through a five-week program that provides innovative training in the areas of:

  • Emotional Intelligence (EQ)
  • Communication
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Disability Management in the Workplace
  • Interview and Job Search Support
  • Stress Management
  • Financial Literacy

We are very excited about this program and to help give people in Ontario an EDGE.
